Author Guidelines

1. The author is expected to have an understanding of the Editor's Policies:

2. The manuscript must be written in English. The submission must be original, not previously published, and not under consideration elsewhere. Additionally, the manuscript must be plagiarism-free, with a maximum Turnitin similarity of 25%.
3. Authors are required to register as an author on the journal’s platform. Registration and paper submission instructions are provided at the end of this guideline. Download Template to prepare the manuscript. Save the file, and use ‘Special Paste’ with ‘Unformatted Text’ to transfer content into the template. Manuscripts that do not adhere to the formatting guidelines may be pre-rejected.
4. Manuscripts should be submitted as *.doc, *.docx, or *.rtf files through the Open Journal System (OJS). To submit, authors must create an account [Register if you do not have one or Log In if you already do].
5. The corresponding author must provide all author information, including names, affiliations, and a short biography. For multi-author submissions, use the ‘Add Contributor’ option to input each author’s data during the submission process.

Article Structure

Authors who wish to submit manuscripts to Vocational: Journal of Educational Technology are expected to carefully follow the following guidelines. These instructions are designed to maintain the quality, consistency, and academic rigor of all published articles.

1. General Requirements

• Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not currently under consideration by any other journal or conference.

• The paper must be relevant to the focus and scope of Vocational: Journal of Educational Technology, particularly within the fields of vocational education, technology-based learning, digital pedagogy, and educational innovation.

• Articles must be written in English, using clear, scholarly language and academic tone.

• All manuscripts must be submitted through the online submission system. Submissions via email will not be accepted.

2. Manuscript Structure

A complete manuscript should include the following components and be structured as outlined below:

Title Page

• Title (concise, specific, and informative)

• Full name(s) of the author(s)

• Institutional affiliation(s)

• Corresponding author's email

Abstract

• Should be written in English (and optionally in Bahasa Indonesia if the manuscript is in Indonesian)

• Length: 150–250 words

• Includes: background, purpose, method, results, and conclusion

• Followed by 3–5 keywords

Introduction

• Brief background of the study

• Research gap and problem identification

• Research objective(s) and significance of the study

Literature Review

• Summarize relevant previous studies, theories, or frameworks

• Demonstrate the novelty and contribution of your research

• Clearly identify knowledge gaps that your research addresses

• Use recent and relevant sources (preferably from the last 5–10 years)

• All citations must be formatted in IEEE style.

• Properly synthesize sources instead of listing them one by one

Methodology

• Type of research (quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods)

• Research instruments and procedures

• Population and sample (if applicable)

• Data collection and analysis techniques

Results

• Presentation of findings using text, tables, and/or figures

• Must be clear, logical, and aligned with the research objectives

Discussion

• Interpretation of findings

• Comparison with previous research

• Theoretical or practical implications

Conclusion

• Summary of findings

• Limitations of the study

• Suggestions for future research or policy/practice

Acknowledgments

Acknowledgments are addressed to official institutions or individuals as funders, or who have made other contributions to the research. Acknowledgments should be accompanied by the research contract letter number.

Author Contributions

Please state each author’s contribution to this work, it can be up to several sentences long and should briefly describe the tasks of individual authors. e.g., AB conducted the research; CD analyzed the data; AB wrote the paper; ...; all authors had approved the final version.

Availability of data and materials

All data are available from the authors.

Competing interests

The authors declare no competing interest.

Additional information

No additional information from the authors.

References

• Must follow the IEEE citation style.

• Use reference management tools such as Zotero, EndNote, Mendeley, etc.

• At least 80% of references must be from journal articles or reputable academic sources published in the last 10 years

• In IEEE format, DOI references are presented without the http or https prefix, formatted simply as DOI: 10.xxxx/xxxxxx. However, including the full link format (e.g., https://doi.org/10.xxxx/xxxxxx) is also acceptable and can enhance accessibility by allowing readers to directly access the link.

3. Formatting Guidelines

• File format: Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx)

• Page size: A4, single column

• Font: Times New Roman, size 12

• Line spacing: 1.0

• Margins: 2.5 cm (top, bottom, left, right)

• Manuscript length: between 4,000–7,000 words, including references

4. Submission Checklist

Before submitting your manuscript, please ensure the following:

- Manuscript follows the required structure
- Title and abstract are clear and informative
- Citations and references are formatted in IEEE style
- Plagiarism is below 25% (use Turnitin or similar tools)
- The manuscript is free from grammatical and typographical errors
- All authors have approved the final version of the paper

5. Peer Review Process

All submitted manuscripts will go through an initial screening by the editors, followed by a double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers. Read more about our Peer Review Process.

6. Article Processing Charges (APC)

The journal does not charge manuscript submission or peer-review fees.

An Article Processing Charge (APC) of IDR 300,000 per accepted article applies to manuscripts formally accepted for publication on or after November 1, 2026, regardless of the manuscript submission date.

Manuscripts accepted before November 1, 2026, are exempt from this charge. Authors with manuscripts already under review before the effective date will be informed about the applicable policy.

Payment is requested only after formal manuscript acceptance and receipt of official payment instructions from the editorial office.

The APC does not influence editorial decisions, peer-review outcomes, or publication acceptance. No additional mandatory author fees are charged.

7. Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain copyright and grant the journal the right of first publication under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). This license allows others to share, adapt, and build upon the work for any purpose, even commercially, as long as proper attribution is given.

8. Plagiarism Policy

Vocational: Journal of Educational Technology is committed to maintaining academic integrity and preventing plagiarism in scholarly publications.

All submitted manuscripts undergo textual similarity screening using Turnitin or equivalent plagiarism detection software.

The journal applies a maximum similarity index of 25% as an initial screening criterion. However, similarity scores are not the sole basis for determining plagiarism. The editorial team evaluates the nature and extent of textual overlap, including quotations, references, common terminology, and properly attributed material.

Manuscripts that exceed the maximum similarity threshold may be returned to authors for revision or rejected following editorial assessment.

Any confirmed plagiarism, including unattributed copying or inappropriate use of previously published material, may result in manuscript rejection regardless of the similarity percentage. For further information, authors should refer to the journal's official Plagiarism Policy.

9. Publication Ethics

The journal upholds high standards of publication ethics, aligned with guidelines from COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics). Authors, reviewers, and editors are expected to behave ethically and professionally throughout the publication process.
