Peningkatan Keterampilan Membaca Pemahaman Menggunakan Strategi Directed Reading Activity

This study was motivated by the low reading comprehension skills of fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 102/II Sungai Kerjan. This was evident from the pre-action results, in which only 34% of students achieved the minimum passing grade (KKM) of 75. To address this problem, this study aimed to improve reading comprehension skills through the application of the Directed Reading Activity (DRA) strategy. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were all 24 fourth-grade students, consisting of 10 male students and 14 female students. Research data were obtained through observation of teacher and student activities, as well as reading comprehension skill tests. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods by calculating the percentage of indicator achievement. The results showed that the application of the DRA strategy was able to improve the learning process and student learning outcomes. Teacher activity increased from 72.22% in cycle I meeting I to 94.44% in cycle II meeting II, while student activity increased from 55.55% in cycle I meeting I to 88.88% in cycle II meeting II. In terms of learning outcomes, student achievement increased from 34% in the pre-intervention phase to 57% in cycle I, and reached 86% in cycle II. Thus, it can be concluded that the Directed Reading Activity (DRA) strategy is effective in improving the reading comprehension skills of fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 102/II Sungai Kerjan.
