Upaya Meningkatkan Keterampilan Membaca Pemahaman Menggunakan Model Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC)

This study was motivated by the low reading comprehension skills of students in Indonesian language learning. This is evident in the fact that many students still have difficulty identifying main ideas, summarizing the content of a text, and answering questions based on the text. This study aims to improve reading comprehension skills through the application of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) model. The type of research used is classroom action research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, each cycle consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were 20 fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 37/II Pasar Lubuk Landai during the second semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. Data were collected through reading comprehension skill tests, teacher observation sheets, and student observation sheets, then analyzed using quantitative and qualitative descriptive techniques. The research results showed improvements in both the learning process and outcomes. Teacher activity increased from an average of 83.33% in Cycle I to 92.85% in Cycle II, categorized as very good. Student activity also increased from 47.5% in cycle I to 80% in cycle II, categorized as very good. Meanwhile, students' reading comprehension skills showed an increase in learning achievement from 45% in cycle I to 85% in cycle II. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) model is effective in improving students' reading comprehension skills. This model can be used as an alternative teaching strategy for Indonesian language instruction in elementary schools to create a more active, collaborative, and meaningful learning process.
