Abstract

Creative thinking skills are one of the essential 21st-century competencies that must be developed in elementary school students, particularly in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) learning, which is closely related to real-life contexts. This study aims to analyze the creative thinking abilities of fifth-grade students on the topic of energy sources, focusing on four main indicators: fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, involving 32 students as research participants, with data collected through creative thinking tests, observation sheets, and interviews. The data were validated through triangulation and analyzed systematically. The findings indicate that elaboration reached a very good category, originality was in the good category, while fluency and flexibility remained at a sufficient level. These results highlight that IPAS learning supported by simple projects and contextual media can effectively foster students’ creative ideas while connecting energy concepts with daily life experiences. Compared to previous studies, the strength of this research lies in its contextual approach, which is more relevant to students’ real conditions, thereby positively influencing elaboration as a dimension of creative thinking. This study implies that teachers should design project-based learning strategies and real-world problem-solving activities to enhance fluency and flexibility dimensions, thus preparing students to face global challenges that demand creative, critical, and adaptive thinking skills.
