Abstract

AI can increase opportunities for creativity and provide a more interactive and personalized approach, which makes it essential for effective learning methods to improve the efficiency of learning activities. However, artificial intelligence is still not fully used in elementary science basic concept courses, and its potential still needs to be explored. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the level of use of AI in the Elementary School Teacher Education study program, especially in the basic concepts of elementary science courses, and analyze AI-based applications that are often used. To conduct this study, we analyzed qualitative and quantitative observation data. Our quantitative data was obtained from surveys and questionnaires conducted by PGSD students. Qualitative data is obtained from the percentage of AI use in students, and our qualitative data is obtained from an analysis of students' knowledge about the impact of AI use on the learning process. The results of the study show that PGSD students use many types of AI, such as ChatGPT with 10 data, Question.AI, Canva, DeepL, Grammarly, Slide.co, Perplexity, and Quill Bot. Students also argue that the presence of AI has had a big impact on the learning process, such as when creating learning media and looking for references in learning. This research provides insight into the potential use of AI in elementary science basic concept courses. The results can help students process learning activities better and develop better learning strategies. In addition, students will have a more engaging learning experience and can encourage the use of AI by PGSD students.
